OnePlus announces the new OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro

OnePlus announces the new OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro

Today, OnePlus announced its new flagship smartphones for 2021; the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Both phones cost more than their predecessors, starting at £629 for the base model OnePlus 9. They both support 5G and boast Hasselblad camera units.

The OnePlus 9 has a 6.55-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, with a resolution of 2400 x 1080, 1100 nits of brightness and a pixel density of 402ppi. The 3.5mm headphone jack still isn’t here and it is very unlikely it will ever make a return. In terms of cameras, the OnePlus 9 has three on the back with a 48MP main camera, 50MP ultra wide camera and a 8MP telephoto lens. On the front is a 16MP camera and they have all been specially tweaked by Hasselblad, for OnePlus.

The OnePlus 9 Pro has a slightly larger curved screen and has an extra camera. It has a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with the addition of power saving LTPO. The Pro has a brighter screen, at 1300 nits. The pro shares the same 48MP main camera, 50MP ultra wide camera and a 8MP telephoto lens as the standard 9, but it also adds a 8MP telephoto lens.

Internally, both phones run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The 128GB model has 8GB of RAM and the 256GB model has 12GB of RAM. The included Warp Charger 65T can charge the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro from 0-100% in just 29 minutes.

Both handsets ship with Android 11 with OnePlus’s custom Oxygen OS skin on top. The OnePlus 9 comes in Astral Black, Arctic Sky or Winter Mist, while the OnePlus 9 Pro comes in Stellar Black, Morning Mist or Pine Green. Different colour variants will have different storage and RAM options.

Both phones can be pre-ordered from today. The OnePlus 9 starts at £629 and the OnePlus 9 Pro starts at £829.
