Renault has pulled the Megane from sale in the UK

This week, Renault has removed the combustion-powered Renault Mégane from sale here in the UK. The car had been sold here for 27 years and gone through four different generations. All is not lost however, as the electric Mégane is to remain on sale.

The latest generation of Mégane was revealed back in 2015 at the Frankfurt motor show. Renault offered a range of model variants, with a five-door hatchback, estate tourer and in some other markets, a saloon model was offered too.

Over the years, Renault has had a long history of producing RS versions of the Mégane, with the RenaultSport brand. Near the end, Renault launched its most expensive model yet, the Renault Mégane RS Trophy-R. This was launched in 2019, had front wheel drive and lapped the Nürburgring in a record time.

Sales of the Mégane haven’t been very strong lately. Autocar managed to source sales figures for the past few years and the company only sold 793 units in 2021. For reference, Volkswagen sold 30,200 Golfs in the same year.

Remaining on sale is the all electric Renault Mégane E-Tech, which is a taller SUV style car, priced from £35,995 and has a range of 280 miles.
