Seat had a record breaking year in 2019, thanks mainly to SUV sales

This week, Seat announced that it had a record breaking sales year in 2019, thanks mainly to the increase of SUV sales. The company now offers a wide array of SUV models, from the smaller Arona, mid-size Ateca and the larger Tarraco. The Tarraco is one of the company’s newest SUV models. Also, the Cupra brand sits under Seat and offers the Cupra Ateca as a high performance alternative.

Seat has reported it sold 574,078 in 2019, which is ten percent more than it sold in 2018. Seat’s SUV line up equated to forty four percent of the total sales in 2019. 68,822 of those cars were sold here in the UK.

“2019 was a positive year for SEAT. The figures obtained thanks to the teamwork of the entire organisation put us in an optimal position. Last year’s results provide a solid foundation on which to build the company’s long-term future.”

Carsten Isensee, Seat President

Seat has warned about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has seen many UK car factories shut down temporarily, from Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, Morgan Motors, McLaren, Nissan and Mini. Seat has said that due to the pandemic, the company will not be able to provide any sales forecasts for this year.

In the press release, Seat also pointed towards the future – mentioning that between Seat and Cupra both companies will introduce five new electric and plug-in hybrid cars later this year and into 2021.

Seat has one electric car currently, the Seat Mii Electric, which is based on the new Volkswagen e-up!
