After many rumours and leaks, the brand new Tesla Model Y for 2025 has gone live on the company's Chinese website. The new Model Y has a new, modern design but it's notably a lot more striking than the refresh we saw for the Model 3 Highland, at the end of 2023.
Tesla is referring to this as the 'Upgraded Model Y', much like it did with the Model 3. Design at the front has changed a lot, with a new slim lightbar, which is undeniably taking cues from the Cybertruck and round the back, the glowing red lightbar, which is actually a diffused light.
"The vehicle has been redesigned to maximize efficiency and use each degree of electricity more effectively. The updated suspension, hubs and tires make the driving experience smoother and quieter."

Inside, the design is pretty much, as expected the same as the Model 3. With the new modern steering wheel, more modern centre console and the wraparound LED lights. In the back seats too, again like the Model 3 there is a smaller screen for keeping the ball seat passengers entertained. Various improvements seen with the Model 3 have also trickled down to the new Model Y, included ventilated seats, better network connectivity, acoustic glass and blind spot monitoring to name a few.
More information has since been added regarding the supposed lack of stalks on the new Model Y. When checking the Australia website, this shows an stalk to the left of the steering wheel, supposedly added due to feedback received from the latest Model 3.
Details on the new Model Y are sparse right now, this is the only information we have so figures on range and performance are going to be geared towards the Chinese market. In China, Tesla seems to be offering a 'Launch Series' until 28th February, with first deliveries expected in March.
The Launch Series versions have Launch logos near the wireless phone chargers, custom plates on the sills, puddle lights and badges all around the car. Other details include high end mats and suede on the dash.
However, prices for the rear-wheel drive model starts at 263,500 yuan, which works out at £29,205 or $35,939 USD. That gets you 593km (368 miles) of range on the CLTC cycle, which at this stage is an estimate, according to Tesla. There is also the 'Long Lasting' model for 303,500 yuan, which is £33,642 or $41,395 USD. This has 719km of range (446 miles) ,again on the CLTC cycle.
