Tesla plans to add more Superchargers in larger cities

Tesla is starting a new major expansion of its famed Supercharger network, used exclusively by Tesla’s own cars. The company is about to start deploying new charging points around the United Stares, starting with Chicago and Boston, both of which will open next Monday

This new growth is especially important as new Tesla customers will be getting their hands on the Model 3 in the next coming months, as production for the new entry level car is increased.

More chargers. Faster chargers.

The news was revealed today, that Tesla will be expanding their current network into a lot more cities, starting with the city centres in downtown Chicago and Boston.

Supercharger stations in urban areas will be installed in convenient locations, including supermarkets, shopping centers and downtown districts, so it’s easy for customers to charge their car in the time it takes to grocery shop or run errands.

Tesla is also launching a refreshed design for the Supercharges, one that makes it faster and more convenient to install, as well as taking up much less space which is very important for urban settings.

New design for the Tesla Superchargers

The new Superchargers are also much more efficient at charging the cars, it has a new design which allows it to allocate 72 kW per car, so that when more than a few cars are sapping power at the same time, it doesn’t diminish the charging rate for anyone else.

New locations

For anyone who lives in the area, the new locations are in Chicago and Boston, more detailed addresses below.

  • 10 charging bays at 225 North Columbus Drive, Chicago
  • 8 charging bays in 800 Boylston Street, Boston.

Both new locations are available for use 24 hours a day.
