Toyota announces GR Supra with manual gearbox

Today, Toyota has announced the much requested manual version of the GR Supra which will have a six speed manual gearbox, coming three years after the Supra was originally launched.

The new six speed manual has been engineered by Toyota specially for the 335bhp 3.0-litre straight-six engine. This also means that the manual box is not available for the entry level 254bhp 2.0-litre flat four version of the Supra.

However, something that Toyota has added comes from its devolvement of the GR Yaris hot hatch, which is ‘Intelligent Manual Transmission (IMT)’. To put it simply IMT will make sure that the engine and gearbox work hand in hand to ensure there is an optimum amount of engine torque as soon as the clutch is engaged. Toyota has also said that IMT can be disabled if needed.

Toyota has done some light refresh work on the Supra range, all now have retuned suspension as well as more rigid rear anti-roll bar bushes and retuned shock absorbers.

“Toyota has listened to sports car fans and customers. (The car has been) engineered to delight drivers who love the control and rewards offered by precisely timed manual shifts”.

Toyota will be releasing UK pricing and an official release date in the next few weeks.
