In August last year, Ubiquiti launched the first device under the Premium Audio category of devices with the PowerAmp, a multi-room amplifier with support for AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect. It retails for $599 in the US and has a wide variety of outputs.
However, Ubiquiti has this week released a new smaller device to compliment the PowerAmp, with the PoE Audio Port.
Ubiquiti says that:
The PoE Audio Port is a streaming audio interface designed to connect traditional amplifiers, active speakers, or audio systems to a modern wireless streaming setup. It allows users to stream music over Wi-Fi and integrate legacy equipment into a smart audio ecosystem.
While the PowerAmp features an integrated amplifier for powering up passive speakers, the PoE Audio Port is instead used for giving a data connection to existing speaker setups, or active speakers. This device is akin to what Apple used to offer with the AirPort Express and its integrated 3.5mm output.
For ports, there are quite a few, with 2 RCA inputs, 2 RCA outputs, barrel plug for power, ethernet for data as well as PoE input, USB-C port for connecting to audio sources, HDMI eARC port and a pair of optical audio ports, one for input and one for output. The PoE Audio Port also supports 802.11ax WiFi, for places without a hardwired option.
Just like the PowerAmp, the PoE Audio Port supports AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Soundtrack Your Brand as well as the UniFi Play app on iOS and Android.
The PoE Audio Port is in stock on the US Ubiquiti store for $199 and comes in either black or white. In the UK it says "Coming Soon" and costs £190.80.
