Ubiquiti announces UniFi PowerAmp, a multi-room amplifier with AirPlay 2

Ubiquiti has revealed its latest product line today, UniFi PowerAmp. This is a very unexpected product from Ubiquiti, but as you look into it, it does make sense. Ubiquiti is already getting involved in display signage with UniFi Connect and audio systems is pretty much the next step. While it may seem like it could be used in the home, that is the case but it seems Ubiquiti is targeting this product and the UniFi Play app towards businesses first but it seems like it'll work great in a home environment.

There are two things at play here, we have the new UniFi Play application which doesn't require a UniFi Console to work and just needs the mobile app. Then there is the new UniFi PowerAmp, which is a receiver and amplifier all in one and has multiform audio in mind. The PowerAmp has a bunch of connectors on the back which include one RCA subwoofer output, 2 RCA inputs and then two speaker terminal connects with two banana plugs.

It also has two RJ45 ethernet ports for connectivity as well as WiFi support. Also found is one HDMI eARC port for audio passthrough when using a television and it has support for surround sound, including the following standards:

  • Dolby Atmos
  • Dolby TrueHD
  • Dolby Atmos (True HD)
  • Dolby Atmos (Dolby Digital Plus)
  • Dolby Digital
  • Dolby Digital Plus
  • Stereo PCM
  • Multichannel PCM
  • Dolby Multichannel PCM

For getting music on the PowerAmp, the standard RCA connectors can be used or it has support for Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and a service called Soundtrack Your Brand will be available on 8th November.

The new UnIFi PowerAmp is listed on the official Ubiquiti store in the US and is priced at $599 and will be available on 29th August. In the UK, it is £598.80 and is marked as "coming soon" with no hard date set. In the rest of Europe, it costs €682.80 and like the US, it will be available on 29th August.
