Ubiquiti debuts the UNAS Pro and UniFi Drive

Ubiquiti has today stepped into Synology's world, with the brand new UNAS Pro and it has the exact same hardware design as the UNVR Pro. Actually, as far back as May 2023, we reported that a spec sheet for this exact device had been leaked on the Ubiquiti website and by the looks of it, the hardware looks the exact same.

So what is this? - Well, much like Ubiquiti's brand ethos of not making people pay licensing fees and exorbitant subscription fees, the UNAS Pro has the product tag-line of 'Enterprise Off-Cloud Storage. Meaning you buy your servers and host your own data. This device has a lot of capabilities, including SMB shares, backups to a remote UNAS, backups to the Cloud, UniFi Identity integration and support for Apple Time Machine.

Most of the new features relate to the UniFi Drive application, which at the time of writing can only be ran on the UNAS Pro. While the hardware is the same, or very similar to the the UNVR Pro, it does not look like reflashing it will be possible. However, this remains to be seen.

The hardware itself comes in a silver 2U rack mount chassis, with seven drive bays, which support 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drives and can be standard HDD drives or SSD. Much like the UNVR Pro, on the front is a 1.3-inch touchscreen for checking the UNAS as well as suposodbly checking drive health and storage utilisation. For networking, there are two ports on the front, one 10G SFP+ and one 1GbE RJ45 port.

The UNAS Pro only runs UniFi Drive and it'll be available in the US and Europe on 25th October for $499 / €553.20. In the UK and Canada, the release date is unknown and it only says "Coming Soon". Pricing in Canada is $667 and UK, £478.80.
