Since announcing its new sub-brand back in February, parent company Chery has announced further details about its new upcoming models for Lepas. A new smaller SUV is due to launch later this year and will mark the third EV from the group to go on sale in the UK.
Lepas is one of three Chery sub-brands offered in the UK, sitting alongside Omoda and Jaecoo. The latter has the highly successful J7 in its portfolio, which was the best selling car in the UK last month.
We've already seen some details about the L8, which will be the first model offered from Lepas. This will be a large five seater SUV, around the same size as the Chery Tiggo 9, with probably a PHEV only option. This is due to be confirmed, however.
While the L8 will be first, Lepas has already announced details about its next model, which will be a smaller SUV. Crucially it will be offered as a pure EV, as well as a plug-in-hybrid.
For the PHEV version, it'll use the same powertrain as we've seen in the Jaecoo 7 - so this means a 18.3kWh battery which is mated to a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Lepas is claiming a total range of 700 miles.
As for the EV version, it'll join its cousins, the Jaecoo E5 and Omoda E5 - but the battery hardware has been upgraded. While the other two use a 61kWh battery and offer 257 miles of range - the Lepas uses a larger 67kWh pack, which should be good for 270 miles of range.
So far, Lepas hasn't shown off the interior, but based on what we have seen with the L8 this should mean a Jaecoo style portrait screen and modern steering wheel, like we've seen in the Omoda 7.
More details, pricing and specifications will be released later this year.
