Jaecoo planning smaller J3 and high end J9

Jaecoo

At the Beijing Motor Show last week, Chery (who owns Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas) held its International Business Summit (IBS) and provided some insight into what we can expect to see from its various brands.

Jaecoo, which is selling in massive numbers in the UK, currently has three models on offer, the entry level J5, the best seller J7 and its latest model, the six or seven seat J8.

However, keen to expand its lineup, the brand is planning on launching two more models, which will sit at either ends of the market. The first of which is a smaller model than the J5, called J3.

While the Jaecoo 5 is similar in size to the Ford Puma, the upcoming baby Jaecoo could be around the same size as the Jeep Avenger and will likely use the same non plug-hybrid powertrain from Chery, called SHS-H. We've seen this system used in the Omoda 5 and Jaecoo 5 and when compared to the pure petrol models, it signifcanlty improves the efficiency.

Jaecoo could also launch a pure electric model of the J3, just like it has with the E5 - while this remains to be seen, it is highly likley.

The largest model that Jaecoo currently offers is the J8, which is offered in either six or seven seat configurations. This is the same size as the Chery Tiggo 9, so Jaecoo would have to borrow a different platform from an existing model, such as the Chery Fulwin T11, which is over 5 metres long or the recently announced Chery Tiggo V, although dimensions for the Tiggo V have not yet been revealed.

More information regarding the upcoming Jaecoo J3 and J9 will be released in due course.
