Earlier today, Volkswagen updated the ID. Buzz Cargo electric van with a new smaller battery pack and, subsequently a lower price tag. Volkswagen has changed a number of things on the new van, such as the smaller 59kWh battery, slightly slower DC charging speed and lower price tag.
Volkswagen has timed the launch of this variant fairly well, as later this month on 31st March - the Plug-in Van Grant (PiVG) from the UK Government will come to an end. The PiVG currently takes £5,000 off the price of a brand new electric van and the current pricing for the 59kWh ID. Buzz with the grant is £30,960, some £2,500 less than the previous entry level version. Without the PiVG, this creeps up to £35,960.
Previously, the cheapest version of the ID. Buzz Cargo offered a 79kWh battery, 276 miles of range and 170kW DC fast charging. This new variant has a smaller 59kWh battery and offers 200 miles of range. The charging speed is, as mentioned, slightly slower at 165kW - but this won't be enough to notice.
Elsewhere, lots of tech comes as standard - as you get a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Due to it being larger, this will be the latest version of the VW infotainment software, which is much better than before. You also get three seats up front, although this can be changed to two captains chairs, heated drivers seat as well as front and rear parking sensors.
Perhaps more interesting is the addition of a much more powerful motor. You see, the ID. Buzz GTX and ID.7 GTX both come with an all-wheel drive system and a 335bhp dual motor setup. Not only does this increase the towing capacity from 1,000kg to 1,800kg - it also allows the ID. Buzz Cargo to get to the job site much faster, as it can do 0-60mph in around five seconds. Just wow.
