Volkswagen reveals all new Amarok pickup truck, on sale later this year

Today, Volkswagen has revealed the all new Amarok pickup truck which will go on sale later this year. The new Amarok is actually based on the latest Ford Ranger, which was revealed last year. For the future of commercial vehicles from Ford and VW, the two brands are doing some platform sharing to help cut costs.

The new Volkswagen Amarok replaces the outgoing model, which was on sale for 12 years. The engineering for the new truck was conducted between teams in Australia, Germany and the US and the company is planning for a launch to go on sale in 2022.

Inside and out, the Amarok has been redesigned with a more squared off front end and much more luxurious interior. Around the  truck are more than 30 driver assistance systems and new engine options. Sitting at the top of the line is the 3.0-litre V6 diesel, with 4Motion and 247bhp.

When it goes on sale, the first models will be offered in a four-door double-cab version. Later on, a two-door single-cab variant will join the lineup in 2023. Five trim levels will be offered, with Standard, Life, Style, Aventura and Panamericana.

Inside, the dashboard looks similar to the Ranger with the portrait infotainment screen which is 10-inches as standard and more luxurious models getting a larger 12-inch screen. Underneath is the Ford Sync4 operating system, but Volkswagen has added their own skin over the top.

Production of the new Amarok is set to get underway at Ford’s factory in Pretoria, South Africa in a few months time ready to go on sale later this year. Prices are yet to be revealed, but the current model retails for £32,000 so expect a similar price. The Amarok will go on sale in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
