Milence has opened the very first UK charging hub for electric HGV lorries in the last few weeks, offering up to 400kW DC charging in Lincolnshire. The new hub has been built by Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, Traton Group and the Volvo Group.
Planning for the new hub was approved back in June 2023 and its located just off of the A180 near Immingham. It is pretty well located and is very close to the M180 motorway. Prices is listed in euros and is pretty reasonable at €0.48/kWh, which works out at £0.40.
Milence has big plans for the UK and HGV charging. Two more charging hubs are planned, one in-between Immingham and Birmingham and then another one in-between Liverpool and Northampton. The company is also planning on opening 1,700 HGV charging points throughout Europe by 2027.
Milence CEO, Anja van Niersen, said:
"This strategically located site underscores our commitment to providing reliable and accessible charging infrastructure for the growing number of electric truck operators. This is just the first step in our UK expansion and we are dedicated to working with all stakeholders to accelerate the shift towards a sustainable future for the transport industry."
Many HGV companies are selling electric trucks already in the UK, including Volvo which has seven models on sale. Volvo offers its flagship FH Aero which has 540kWh of battery capacity and 186 miles of range. Elsewhere, Mercedes has the eActros 600 with 310 miles of range, LFP batteries and 621kWh of capacity.
