Volkswagen unveils the new Polo for 2021

Volkswagen unveils the new Polo for 2021

Volkswagen has announced the new look Polo for 2021 this week with a mild facelift on the outside and redesigned interior to bring it more inline with newer Volkswagen cars. The Polo shares some of the same design language with the new eighth generation Golf, with LED light bar below the radiator grille.

VW has also updated the numbers, redesigned the tailgate and for the first time ever on a Polo, IQ Light which is Volkswagen’s own brand matrix LED system. The new VW logo is also present on the Polo, as is the new steering wheel design that is being used in the latest models.

Inside the Polo, Volkswagen has added its latest system for infotainment but the screen still sits nicely in the dashboard rather than floating above like on the ID.3 and Golf, which makes the design feel more complete. Two sizes are being offered, 6.5-inch and 9.2-inch.

In terms of engines, Volkswagen hasn’t changed anything at all, which makes sense as investing in new engines doesn’t seem that important now what with the 2030 date of EV only cars getting closer. All engines offered are three cylinder units offering 79bhp to 108bhp with the choice of manual or DSG still in place.

The trim levels have been cleaned up to bring the Polo more in line with the Mk8 Golf, with Life, Style and R-Line which replace the old Match, SEL and R-Line models. For those worried, the Polo GTI is set to make a return but in the UK that won’t be until 2022, with the option of manual not being known as Volkswagen did promise a manual Polo GTI with the current model and that never materialised.

The new Polo will go on sale later this year, with prices yet to be confirmed.
