Volkswagen will announce the new Polo GTI in June

Volkswagen will announce the new Polo GTI in June

Volkswagen announced the all new Polo a couple weeks ago with it go on sale later this year in the UK, but one model that was missing was the Polo GTI. But this week, VW has shared a preview image of the sketch with a launch date to be in June this year. VW was supposed to announce the Polo GTI at Lake Wörthersee, an annual GTI event the company holds, which is where the up! GTI was previewed before going on sale. The event was canceled, as it was last year due to the ongoing pandemic.

As with the standard new Polo, the new GTI will have LED headlights as standard, LED light bar across the grill and like its big brother, the Golf GTI – the lower grill houses some additional hexagon shaped lights too. The outgoing Polo GTI was powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 200bhp and during the models life, some models had 207bhp. This is the same engine used in the Golf GTI and Golf R, just with less power.

At the old cars launch, it was touted to come with either a manual or dual-clutch (DSG) automatic gearbox, but the manual option never materialised.

Like the standard Polo, the GTI trim should go on sale later this year, but more details will be announced next month.
