VW CEO hints at a hot hatch version of the ID.3

Ralf Brandstatter, the Volkswagen CEO has recently shared a preview of what he calls the Volkswagen ID.X. It looks to be a hot hatchback version of the new all electric ID.3 and the images show a revamped car with larger alloy wheels, green accenting in the cabin which extends to the dashboard, steering wheel, stitching and on the exterior.

Brandstatter has made it clear that this doesn’t show a new car that is coming, its more of an ideas exercise. Volkswagen will take the ideas from this project and put it in other models.

However, despite it not being an actual car that we will see – Volkswagen has gone into some detail about the specifications. It takes the drivetrain from the new ID.4 GTX with a larger battery, from 62kWh to 82kWh and all wheel drive. The electric motors here actually make more power than the ID.4 GTX, jumping fro 295bhp to 329bhp.

Brandstatter has said the concept car will do 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. Also, it has a drift mode, as seen on the new Golf R (LINK).
