When Sky Q launches, 4K will run at 50fps

With the news of the pricing for the highly anticipated Sky Q TV service having just been revealed last week, we’re back with more news of the service, according to TechRadar Sky’s top end set-top box – the Sky Q Silver which can support 4K content will have the latest HDMI 2.0 standard deeply integrated in the system allowing it to output content at 50fps, matching the rival BT, with their BT Sport Ultra HD Humax box.

Sky Q is expensive, but from what we know so far – this is what the future of TV may be

The Sky Q Silver so far supports HDMI 1.4b, but an update to the firmware on launch day is expected to ion up HDMI 2.0. But from first impressions and despite the cost per month, which is around £90 if you want 4K – this is shaping up to be the future of TV and home networking.

“The Sky Q Silver box hardware supports up to HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2,” a Sky representative told us. “At launch the Sky Q Silver is limited in software for up to 1080p output conforming to the HDMI 1.4b standard – this configuration will be updated to enable 2160p UHD output utilising HDMI 2.0 and HDCP2.2 when Sky makes Ultra HD services available later in 2016.” – Sky

Sky Q is launching later this month on February 9th starting at £42 per month.
