YouTube has announced this week an upcoming change to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and the eligibility to sign up for the program is coming down, meaning smaller channels now need less subscribers and less watch hours to become eligible to start being monetised.

Currently, as the new conditions haven’t yet gone public, creators need:

  • At least 1,000 subscribers
  • and either 4,000 watch hours in the past year or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

Once the new conditions go into effect, creators will then need:

  • 500 subscribers
  • 3 public uploads in the last 90 days
  • and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.

This will make it much easier for smaller content creators to start making money on YouTube. Once you do meet the new requirements, you can then apply to be part of the YPP and get access to channel monetisation for normal YouTube videos, Shorts as well as Super Thanks, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Channel Memberships and much more.

YouTube is rolling out he revised YPP soon and it’ll come to the US, UK, Canada, Taiwan and South Korea. The company has said that it will be coming to other countries soon.
