New second generation iPhone SE could launch today

New second generation iPhone SE could launch today

It has been rumoured for a long time now that Apple is set to launch a new low-cost iPhone again, as it did back in 2016 with the iPhone SE which had the same body as the iPhone 5S.

The name of this new iPhone has been a sticking point, people either think it will be called the ‘iPhone 9’ or the ‘iPhone SE’. The name iPhone 9 doesn’t seem to make much sense, yes the name was never used by Apple and does follow on from the iPhone 8, but in the shops customers might get confused as both the iPhone X (iPhone 10) and the iPhone 11 have been released since and customers might confuse the name iPhone 9 for an older model.

Based on some of today’s rumours, the name iPhone SE seems to be more likely.

In a report from 9to5Mac yesterday, the site suggested that it is possible that Apple could launch the new phone today on the 3rd April. 9to5Mac also reported that based on new information they had received, the new 2020 iPhone SE is set to use the same SoC from the current iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, the A13 processor.

9to5Mac also managed to get hold of information of what colours the phone will come in, as well as what storage sizes and what cases will be offered. The iPhone SE is set to come in PRODUCT(Red) as well as white and black and be offered in the usual 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options.

The design is expected to be as near as makes no difference, identical to the iPhone 8, which was released at the same time as the iPhone X back in 2017. The iPhone 8 had 3D Touch, a 4.7-inch touchscreen and Touch ID. The new iPhone SE is expected to keep these, apart from 3D Touch.

Prices are set to start at $399.
