B&Q in the UK, a home DIY store is starting to rollout new electric vehicles for use within its delivery fleet. The company has its own goals to become net zero by 2040 and using electric delivery trucks will help it work towards that goal. B&Q already uses liquified natural gas (LNG) trucks in the UK, in fact it operates one of the largest - but gas still pollutes.
For now, B&Q is going to be using two trucks, from Volvo and these will supplement the company's UK wide home delivery service as well as delivering kitchens and bedrooms in-between B&Q stores.
"We’re working hard to improve our fulfilment services to give our customers more choice of when and how their B&Q purchases are delivered. Our aim is to give customers more choice of speed and location whilst, at the same time, fulfilling our commitment to reduce our impact on the environment, and the introduction of these electric trucks into our fleet is another step towards our transition to alternative fuels."
Amélie Gallichan-Todd - Director of Supply and Logistics, B&Q
B&Q is, for now only using two trucks, but it is planning on expanding this out further with a third arriving in 2025, and then additional smaller EV vans will arrive for localised deliveries next year too.
