BMW announces new i4 electric saloon

This week, BMW has announced the new i4, which is the company’s first all electric saloon and it aims to challenge the Tesla Model 3 and the Porsche Taycan. The i4 will go on sale later this year in the UK, with prices starting at £51,905.

Range for the i4 is between 255 and 367 miles depending on the trim level. It can also charge at up to 210kW where supported, which will add 102 miles of range in ten minutes.

Initial trim levels of the i4 will be the eDrive40 and the M50 xDrive with four wheel drive. The eDrive40 will come in Sport and M Sport versions varying from 255bhp to 335bhp and up to 536bhp in the top spec M50 model. This model will offer similar performance credentials to the Taycan and the E-tron GT.

The entry level eDrive 40 Sport will have 18-inch alloy wheels, black gloss interior trim pieces and gloss exterior trim. Jumping up to the M Sport adds extra styling pieces, unique alloys as well as a leather steering wheel.

The high end i4 M50 has two motors, a 255bhp one driving the front wheels and a more powerful 308bhp one driving the rear wheels.

Inside the i4 is a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen, running a new version of BMW iDrive as well as a 14.9-inch screen in the driver display. Like other i cars from BMW, the i4 has some blue accents throughout the car to highlight it being electric.

The new BMW i4 will go on sale in the UK this November, with prices starting at £51,905 and up to £63,905 for the high end M50.
