Dongfeng Nammi Box EV launches in Europe, for under £20k

One of the largest car companies in China has taken the leap and launched one if its cars in Europe. Dongfeng, which has been in business since 1969, actually has a wide array of vehicles on offer including SUVs, saloons, HGVs, hatchbacks and a Hummer H1 lookalike. Its smallest car, the Nammi Box will be available in Switzerland and is priced very competitively at CHF 21,990, which works out to be around £19,615. The Nammi Box is a direct rival for the Citroen ë-C3, with similar specs, but for around £2,000 less.

The Dongfeng Nammi Box is a similar size to the ë-C3 too, sitting at around 4 metres long. The car uses an in-house platform from Dongfeng, called S3. The Nammi Box has a 42.3kWh battery pack and a WLTP range of 193 miles. In China, the car is also available with a smaller 31.5kWh pack, but Dongfeng isn't planning on offering it in Europe. Power is rated at 93bhp and has one single motor.

Inside, Dongfeng has looked to make it quite an attractive cabin, with white leather and diamond patterns on the dashboard. There is a 12-inch infotainment screen and 5-inch drivers display.

At this stage, not much is known other than what we have reported on. It isn't clear if the company will plan on expanding to the rest of Europe at the UK but as other Chinese brands such as BYD, Chery, Geely, GWM and SAIC have done, expansion seems inevitable.
