First Genesis GV90 prototype to be built in October

Genesis is about to start making the very first prototype of its upcoming ultra-luxury electric SUV, the GV90. Genesis will make the GV90 an electric vehicle only and will be the largest and most likely, the most expensive model to come from the brand so far. Genesis is definitely going after the likes of Bentley and Rolls Royce with the GV90, if the images of the Neorun concept are anything to go by.

Genesis will have the first prototype built and ready for further testing in October and the final product is due to launch in Q1 2026. The company is building a brand new factory in Ulsan, South Korea which is set to be finished by March 2026. The new GV90 will enter production in that factory.

The GV90 will also be built on a brand new platform, called 'eM' which is the Hyundai Motor Group's second platform after eGMP. eGMP is used today as the platform for the likes of the GV60, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. The group is planning on building 13 different types of EVs by 2030, with four from Hyundai, four from Kia and five from Genesis. These will be for small cars, pickup trucks and large SUVs.

Pretty soon, Hyundai will launch the new Ioniq 9, a large SUV similar to the Kia EV9 and will debut at the LA Auto Show in November.
