New Firefly brand from Nio launches with city EV destined for Europe

Nio, one of the larger Chinese car manufacturers has recently held its own media event, dubbed NIO Day. At this event, the company unveiled a new EV brand which has a distinct focus on making affordable electric cars. The brand Firefly was launched, along with its first car, which is yet to be named. The car looks very similar in some ways to the Honda e and it will go up against the likes of the Renault 5, BYD Dolphin and Hyundai Inster.

Firefly will initially launch this new car in China, in April 2025. Shortly afterwards, it'll then launch in Europe - but the date is yet to be confirmed by Nio. This brand has the potential to be launched in the UK too, as Nio's other new brand, Onvo is going to launch in the UK before the EU, due to the lack of import tarrifs for Chinese EVs specifically.

In China, the new Firefly EV will start at the equivalent of £16,000, although it'll no doubt cost more when imported into the UK, with the various taxes and charges added. Although, considering not many EVs sold in the UK are around the £20,000 mark, this could do well if priced as such.

The Firefly seems to have a lot of clever packaging. Up front is the frunk, which is an impressive 92 litres and the boot with the seats down is 1,250 litres. Firefly hasn't confirmed any other specifications.

And that is pretty much all we know about the Firefly. Nio is going to announce the other specifications in due course, such as range, battery options, power output and more. As of yet, the interior images are yet to be released too.
