Ford’s models will be all electric by 2030 in Europe and UK

Ford’s models will be all electric by 2030 in Europe and UK

Here in the UK, the government is going to be banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by the year 2030. Then in 2035 the sale of new hybrids will be banned too, meaning that from the year 2035 the only new cars that’ll be allowed to be sold will be 0% emission, whether that be 100% electric or hydrogen. Ford has announced this week that in the UK and Europe its entire line up will be all electric by the year 2030.

Ford has also said that by the year 2026, every car on sale will either be fully electric or plug-in hybrid, this includes standard passenger cars. The commercial side will be capable of fully EV by 2024. So far the only two electric models that Ford has announced are the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV, which is already on sale and the upcoming electric Transit which is due in Europe by 2022.

To get its lineup to fully EV by 2030, Ford is making some partnerships with Volkswagen as well as converting its headquarters for Europe in Cologne, Germany to be a centre for developing new electric cars. The factory which makes the Fiesta currently, will become the “Ford Cologne Electrification Centre.” As mentioned Ford and VW are banding together, meaning a new Ford EV will share the same MEB platform as the ID.3 and ID.4.

Ford is also moving away from using its Sync infotainment systems, originally designed by Microsoft. Instead like Volvo, the company is partnering with Google for all new infotainment systems.
