HomePod will require an iOS 11 device to be setup

HomePod will require an iOS 11 device to be setup

Apple’s latest product, the HomePod is nearly with us – with shipments expected this week for those who pre-ordered last week and the actual release is this week, on the 9th Feb. But as we get closer to the release date, more and more information and tidbits are being uncovered about how the device works and what is required to set up the speaker.

The HomePod will require an Apple device that is running iOS 11, so it can transfer Apple ID settings, iCloud information, Siri data over to it. The setup process is believed to be akin to that of the AirPods, there by holding the device next to your iPhone or iPad prompts an on screen card with further instructions. WiFi passwords will also be transferred over so it can connect to your home network seamlessly, for some reason Apple has left out the option for Ethernet connections, something which Sonos speakers include if your home wifi system isn’t the best.

Can my device run iOS 11?

Our article from back in September, outlines all you need to know about Apple’s current iOS release, iOS 11. But to run it you will need an iPhone 5s or later, iPad mini 2 or later, iPad Air or later and iPod touch 6th generation.

Release and Pricing

HomePod is available from 9th February for £319 / $349 and comes in Space Grey or White.
