In a bizarre move, Ineos has postponed its electric 4x4 vehicle indefinitely

Ineos, the British manufacturer of off-road vehicles has decided to postpone its first all-electric 4x4, the Fusilier. The car was debuted at the end of February earlier this year and was going to have two variants, a pure EV and an EV with a petrol range extender motor. The Fusilier was originally going to be manufactured by contractor Magna Steyr in Austria who currently build the Toyota GR Supra, BMW Z4, Mercedes G-Glass as well as the Jaguar XE and I-Pace.

At the launch in February, Ineos didn't supply any specific specifications such as battery size, drivetrain or performance. These specs were originally planned to be revealed in autumn 2024. Now, Ineos have delayed the Fusilier indefinitely and it was supposed to enter production in 2027.

"We are delaying the launch of the Ineos Fusilier for two reasons; reluctant consumer uptake of EVs and industry uncertainty around tariffs, timings and taxation. Charging infrastructure for EVs in most markets continues to grow and consumer confidence will match that,  but for the industry to meet net-zero targets there needs to be long-term clarity from policy makers and a number of technology options available considering factors like raw materials, infrastructure and affordability."

For now, Ineos will continue to manufacturer the Grenadier and Quartermaster. It is unclear when Ineos will reconsider the Fusilier EV. However the company has said it remains committed to making an EV.
