Kia launches new Carens Clavis EV, a specific model for India

Kia Carens Clavis EV

Kia has launched its first bespoke electric car for the Indian market, with the Carens Clavis EV. For the past four years, the company has been importing its other electric models, but this new model has been specifically developed for India.

Based on the standard combustion Carens Clavis, this new EV version is pretty similar in size to the EV5 and offers two battery packs, either 42kWh or 51.4kWh, both of which are NMC. The smaller of the two offers 404km (251 miles) on the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC) and with the larger battery, 490km (304 miles).

Charging specs are good on paper, with both batteries capable of 100kW DC charging and 11kW AC. Both also support vehicle-to-load (V2L).

The Carens Clavis EV has a single motor on both trim levels and drives the front wheels only. It makes 132HP and 255 Nm or toque on the smaller battery pack and 168HP and 255 Nm of torque on the larger version.

Inside, it isn't lacking on technology. Just like the premium EVs from Kia, this has two large displays with a 12.25-inch drivers display and another 12.25-inch screen for the infotainment as well as five USB-C ports for charging devices.

As for pricing, it starts at ₹1,799,000, which works out to be around £15,399. For comparison, the combustion Carens Clavis starts at ₹11,49,900, which is around £9,843.
