MG 5 electric estate to be removed from sale next year

MG was pretty much the first car manufacturer to launch an all electric estate car for sale in the UK, since then we have had a few launch such as the BMW i5 and Audi A6, but MG is planning on removing the MG 5 from sale, citing that there is enough choice for customers in its current lineup, with a brand new ZS EV due to be launched.

“At the moment there are no plans to directly replace the MG 5. As soon as the MG 4 came out, it killed the MG 5. At the time we felt an electric estate was what people wanted, but a good-value electric car trumps everything.”

David Allison - MG Head of Product and Planning

MG has said that it has enough stock of the MG 5 on hand to last until early 2025. Going forward, the company believes that customers are well covered with MG 4 and the new ZS EV, which is due to come soon and is based on the Chinese ES 5. The current ZS is also still being sold and itself due to be dropped from sale too.

In 2025, MG will also launch a second new electric SUV, known as the Marvel R in other markets.

In the most recent episode of the Charging Status podcast, me and Jim Starling discussed the MG 5 being dropped from sale:
