Mitsubishi Returns Launching the L200 Pickup and Outlander Plug-in Hybrid

Mitsubishi L200 UK

Mitsubishi Motors exited the UK market in the summer of 2020, citing poor sales and low profitability. We reported back in 2021 that the brand could look to sell cars in Europe again and now they’re back six years on re-launching their most popular vehicles; the L200 pickup and Outlander PHEV.

L200

The L200 has an uphill struggle to re-establish a foothold that it once held strongly in the heavily contested pick-up market. But it is back, better than ever and loaded with plenty of useful tech.

Mitsubishi states “The L200 sets itself apart with Super Select 4WD, allowing seamless switching between 2WD and 4WD even while on the move. Complemented by an advanced 7-mode off-road system that precisely adjusts traction and throttle response for any surface, it blends decades of 4WD heritage with outstanding adaptability — giving you confident control wherever the ground or conditions change.”

The chassis has been strengthened to ensure the L200 can tow up to 3,500 kg whilst its load bed is engineered to carry heavy cargo up to 1,000 kg.

There are two trim levels; the Titan and Barbarian.

The Titan also comes as standard with 17″ Alloys, 6 Speed Auto Easy Select Rear Diff Lock, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, side Steps, Privacy Glass and vinyl flooring. Drivers assistance comes in the form of ADAS, Parking sensors and a 360 degree camera.

The Barbarian adds 18″ Black Alloys, Super Select 4WD II, Hill Descent, power/heated leather seats, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, black external body trims, LED lights, textile flooring, tailgate assist, smart key and six speakers.

Prices start from £36,295 (on the road excl VAT) for the Titan and £39,995 (on the road excl VAT) for the Barbarian and come with a 5-year warranty and with 5 years of pan-European breakdown assistance.

Outlander PHEV

The Outlander was a hugely popular SUV throughout the last decade and this new version will undoubtedly prove to be popular again thanks to some impressive specs, but now it faces fierce competition from the likes of MG, Chery and it’s sub-brands, Omoda, Jaecoo and LEPAS.

The Outlander PHEV combines a 2.4-litre petrol engine with front and rear electric motors providing a permanent 4WD powertrain delivering over 300 bhp and a combined range of more than 500 miles. However, it has not stated what the battery capacity and EV only range is just yet, but according to the Canadian website Mitsubishi claims an EV only range of 72 km, or 44 miles on the more accurate American EPA test cycle, from a 22.7 kWh battery and comes with DC rapid charging as standard.

Mitsubishi says for the first time, the Outlander PHEV will be available with 7 seats in Nativa trim adding to its appeal and practicality.

There are seven driver-selectable modes—Eco, Power, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud to ensure the customer is in command whatever the weather throws at the Outlander.

Two trims are available with the entry Nativa trim offering a 7 Seat Configuration, 20″ alloys, Head Up Display, power tailgate and keyless entry whilst the top-of-the-range Diamond trim adds a 12 speaker Yamaha Ultimate Dynamic sound system, Advanced 3 e-powertrain and memory massage seats, but loses the rearmost 2 seats and comes only in 5-seat configuration.

Priced from £46,995, deliveries are expected to start in May 2026.
