Omoda launches in the UK with new petrol and electric SUVs

Omoda, a brand that not many people will have heard of has started to offer cars in the UK. The brand is owned by Chinese car giant Chery, which has a large number of brands in its portfolio, two of which are going to be available in the UK, Jaecoo and Omoda. Two cars are going to launch first, the Omoda 5 and Omoda E5, with the former being petrol and the latter being electric. Omoda cars are made at its own factory in Wuhu, China.

The 5 and E5 are basically the same size car, with the drivetrain being different and the front styling, which mainly removes the grille. It's similar to the Nissan Qashqai and will likely rival the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS and others.

The petrol 5 uses a 1.6-litre turbo-charged engine with 187bhp. The E5 electric has a 61kWh battery pack, offering 257 miles of range WLTP and a 204bhp electric motor. Charging speeds are rated at 80kW.

Pre-orders for both the Omoda 5 and E5 are due to start soon, with prices also to be revealed soon with first customer deliveries due to start in August.

Omoda and Jaecoo (both owned by Chery) will have 70 co-branded dealerships soon with 100 set to be in operation by the end of 2024.
