Proton to return to the UK market

Proton is about to make a comeback, and part of its global expansion will result in the brand retuning to the UK. This expansion will include the main right-hand-drive markets, including the UK, most of Asia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. While no official timeline has been revealed just yet for the UK, the source for this spoke to Autocar and said that it will be later this decade.

Proton is currently undergoing major construction works in Tanjung Malim, locate in western Malaysia with a brand new headquarters and manufacturing facility. Both Geely and DRB-HICOM Berhad have invited multiple billion pounds in the brand new facility and will help prepare Proton's plans for expanded global sales.

Proton cars were sold in the UK between 1989 and 2014 and currently sells four models all based on shared Geely platforms, with the X50, X70, X90 and S70. The company also has a new subrand focused on EVs with e:MAS and its first car shares its underpinnings with the Geely Galaxy E5 SUV.
