Renault Megane is now a hybrid only model

Renault Megane is now a hybrid only model

Renault has updated the Megane hatchback to make the model now hybrid only, which is something a lot of car companies are doing with some models. Renault has dropped all of the standalone petrol and diesel engines in favour of a plug-in hybrid option, the same unit that is in the Captur SUV.

The Megane now comes in two trims, Iconic and RS Line, with the latter taking cues from actual RS models with larger alloys and some sporty trim inside. Renault hasn’t said yet what the range of the Megane is in electric only mode, but if it is the same electrical system the range is around 30 miles.

Both the Iconic and RS Line models come with an 1.6-litre petrol engine with the supplemental 65bhp electric motor and both together give the car 158bhp. 0-60mph is handled in 9.4 seconds with a top speed of 114mph.

The Iconic model is well trimmed on paper, coming standard with 16-inch alloys, leather steering wheel and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Also as standard are front and rear parking sensors and hill start assist.

The higher end RS Line model adds sporty bumpers, larger 17-inch alloy wheels and a leather sports steering wheel. Also the infotainment screen is larger at 9.3-inches.

Renault hasn’t released any prices for the PHEV Megane yet but orders start in August this year and then first customer deliveries to be in September onwards.
