Rivian has recalled 502 R1T trucks due to an airbag issue

Rivian has announced recently that it is recalling some examples of the R1T truck, due to an issue with the airbag sensors. This issue could cause the airbag not to disable if a child is sitting in the front passenger seat – which is obviously a safety issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US has said that this is the first recall Rivian has actually had, and this specific one affects just 502 R1T vehicles. The affected cars were built between September 2021 and April 2022.

If you happen to have an affected car, Rivian will replace the front passenger seat for free at Rivian service centers in the US. Affected customers will also be contacted via phone, email and text – as well as a message on the in vehicle screen.
