Tesco has added its first Iveco all electric delivery van to its fleet here in the UK, in the form of the Iveco eDaily. The new van will do home delivery rounds for the supermarket in Horwich. At the moment, Tesco only have the one on the fleet but it’ll be adding a further 150 vehicles by the end of 2024. Tesco has goals of having a fully electric delivery fleet by 2030.

“The delivery of the Iveco eDaily electric home delivery van to our Horwich store is an exciting step as we move towards a fully electric fleet across the UK by 2030. The extended range the eDaily offers will enable us to reach more customers in a single trip at our bigger catchments stores, and help us reach our commitment to be carbon neutral in our own operations by 2035.”

Rob Smallwood – Tesco UK Fleet Manager

The Iveco eDaily models in question have two batteries, but the model can have one, two or three batteries depending on the wheelbase, weight and more. Iveco offers the eDaily as a panel van with or without windows or as a refrigerated van such as what Tesco would use. Each battery is 37kWh, so with two Tesco have a reasonable 74kWh back to use.

Tesco has already been using the Ford E-Transit for deliveries from its Sheffield store and it uses three electric trucks, two of which are from DAF and are 37 tonne vehicles.

In terms of charging, Tesco will primarily be using its already installed AC chargers at its stores, easily offering a full charge overnight. Tesco has 619 stores in the UK, with 2,700 charging bays. If it ever came to it, the eDaily can be DC fast charged at up to 80kW, adding 62 miles of range in 30 mins.
