Tesla recalls 40,000 cars due to power steering issue

Tesla has this week has recalled around 40,000 cars, which include the Model S and Model X – coincidently, the two most expensive models the company makes. BBC News reported the information yesterday and it affects exactly 40,168 units. The issue is down to a software issue which can detect potholes and other road imperfections as steering assist torque, which according to the NHTSA can be so serious, it could result in crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported it is concerned that this issue with the software on Tesla vehicles could result in a crash. Tesla has now recalled 40,168 cars, but the issue has already been resolved with a remotely pushed software update, which according to Tesla has already been rolled out to 97% of vehicles affected.

The issue affects any Tesla Model S and Model X cars, made between 2017 and 2021. According to the report, the issue starting appearing with the 2022.36 firmware update. So far in 2022, Tesla has had seventeen recalls, some of which affected power windows, software glitches and more.
