Ubiquiti launches new Pro XG 8 PoE, with 10GbE Ethernet and PoE++

UniFi Pro XG 8 PoE Switch

Ubiquiti unveiled its new line of Pro XG switches and APs for UniFi in March, and as well as the new XG and XGS UniFi access points, Ubiquiti also mentioned a brand new compact desktop switch, called the Pro XG 8 PoE. This switch never materialised until the end of April and is now listed on the official store, with a note that it'll be available in May 2025.

This new switch has a very similar chassis design to the UISP Switch Plus and features ten interfaces in total, with eight RJ45 ports - all capable of 10GbE and PoE++ (802.3bt) and Etherlighting. There's also two 10G SFP+ ports, for simple uplinking.

One of the strange design choices on the Pro XG 8 PoE is the external power supply and barrel connector. The barrel connector could have some issues with accidental disconnections if used on a desk, like the marketing images suggest. However, with the external power supply offering jut 155W of PoE budget, the 60W per port specification of 802.3bt could mean it could run into some issues. For most use it might be perfectly fine. If you are loading up eight PoE++ devices, it might be worth looking at a larger capacity switch.

The new Pro XG 8 PoE is listed on the official Ubiquiti store in the US for $499, Canada for $715, UK for £474 and Europe for €449. In all of those markets, it is marked as being available in May 2025.
