Ubiquiti UniFi UXG Lite vs UXG Max

Ubiquiti has been on a roll lately with its new gateway products, the original UXG Pro was debuted back in 2020 and then finally went on sale in 2022 and since then, not much has changed in the lineup. The UXG Lite was launched in November 2023 as the direct replacement for the ageing USG 3P, which has since been completely removed from the official Ubiquiti Store. As of 2025, the USG, USG Pro and USG-XG are considered EOL and are not supported in the latest UniFi Network versions.

Previously, the USGand USG Pro 4 were not listed on the store, but could be found if you searched for it. Now, Ubiquiti is back with the UXG and we now have a typical goldilocks lineup, with good, better and best.

Which one to choose?

Well it does depend on what you are after. In this guide, we’re going to compare the UXG Lite to the UXG Max as these two are going to be the most likely to be used at home, the larger UXG Pro is fantastic, but it is rack mountable only and it is quite expensive. For comparison sake, the UXG Lite is $129 in the US and the UXG Max is $199. Both are going to be a super solid option for home/small business use, but if you need proper dual-WAN support, then the UXG Max will be the route to go down. Also, the UXG Max also supports 2.5GbE Ethernet, so if you are lucky enough to have over 1Gbps speeds, then the Max might be a good option.

When compared to Ubiquiti's Dream Machine lineup, the UXG devices offer the ability to host UniFi in a different place, such as self-hosted on your own server, or with something like HostiFi.

Recommendation

In terms of a recommendation, it just boils down to if you need proper dual-WAN support or not and if you have an internet connection over 1Gbps. If either of those is the case, then the UXG Max or UXG Pro would be our choice. For anything else, the UXG Lite will be a super solid option, especially if you are coming from the USG 3P.
