Vauxhall announces the new all electric Astra, complete with estate version

Vauxhall has today announced the new Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric, both will be going on sale here in the UK in June 2023. The most interesting bit of news is that there is going to be an estate version, of which there aren’t many available, the other being the new MG5 which is only made in an estate option.

The Astra Electric does away with the naming scheme from the Corsa, which is called the Corsa-e but instead offers for a simpler name. The electric Astra will be based on the new Stellantis EMP2 platform which is already in use on the new Peugeot e-308 which is due to be available in the UK next summer.

Range for the new model is 258 miles, using the WLTP cycle and this coincides with other Stellantis models that are on sale already. Both Astra versions will be powered by a 158bhp electric motor with 199lb ft of torque with front wheel drive only. The battery pack is 54kWh and can handle 100kW charging speeds, enabling 0-80% in around 30 minutes.

Vauxhall says the Astra Electric can do 105mph top speed, but hasn’t provided the 0-60mph times just yet.

Vauxhall hasn’t provided the official prices yet for the Astra Electric, but given the Corsa-e is around £30,000, expect it to be slightly higher. The company will be revealing prices nearer the time of it going on sale, which is June 2023.
