Volvo goes hybrid only on the S90 saloon

Volvo goes hybrid only on the S90 saloon

Today, Volvo in the UK has updated the lineup for the S90 saloon, some trim levels have been removed and also you can no longer buy the S90 in combustion only form, instead the car is now only available as a hybrid. The larger V90 estate, which is built upon the S90 remains with the same engine options as before.

In terms of trim changes, Volvo has dropped all the ‘Plus’ trim levels, which means the base price of a S90 now increases slightly to the R-Design trim which is priced at £55,180. The S90 also comes in the Inscription trim level which is £56,030. On the Inscription trim level, the S90 has a lot more chrome trim pieces than the R-Design as well as colour coordinated door mirrors, whereas the R-Design is more sporty, with black gloss trim, black door mirrors and black front grill. The R-Design also has sports pedals as standard.

Now that all S90 models are plug-in hybrid only, the diesel engine has been dropped from the range and instead the S90 now comes with a T8 petrol engine, which has 303bhp, does 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds and has a combined figure of 166mpg.

The V90 hasn’t gone unchanged though, both the S90 and V90 have had some mild styling and specification upgrades too, both cars have received a new bumper design and the V90 estate now has redesigned tail lights. The inside of both cars has been updated, in the rear of the cars the old fashioned 12v power socket has been ditched and instead two USB C ports are now its in place. Wireless phone charging has also been added as a new option.

The new hybrid S90 saloon and mildly updated V90 estate are both now available to configure on Volvo’s website.
