VW aims to produce 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2025

VW aims to produce 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2025

Volkswagen has been battling with the aftermath of ‘dieselgate’ for nearly five years now and since that has been dealt with, the company and most of the VW Group have been focusing on the future, which is electric vehicles. Tesla has been leading the market for EVs in the US for a while now, since the Model 3 was launched.

ID.3

Not to get left behind, Volkswagen unveiled the first in it’s new range of ID cars, the ID.3 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019, VW has since then unveiled a number of other models which could come later, such as the ID.BUZZ which is a VW campervan, but made for the modern times.

The ID.3 is slated for a late 2020 release with pre-orders opening now.

1.5 million EVs

This week though, Volkswagen have said that they aim to have produced one million electric cars, by the end of 2023. It’s previous target was 2025. By the end of 2025 with this taken on board, Volkswagen is aiming to have produced 1.5 million electric cars.

Also, that ID.3 won’t be making it across the pond to the US anytime soon, or even at all – so Volkswagen is looking to here in Europe for those sales.

VW Group

Its not clear if that target includes the rest of the VW Group, which is composed of Audi, Lamborghini, Skoda, Bugatti, Seat and so on. Skoda and Seat already have electric versions the Citi-go and the Mii on sale and VW has a new e-up arriving next year. Audi has the e-tron SUV on sale and Bentley, which is also part of VW have a PHEV version of the Bentagya. Porsche, which is also part of VW has nearly finished the Taycan saloon car, which is the closest to a Tesla VW has come so far.
