Volkswagen has informed future customers of the all-electric ID.4 SUV that the car will be seeing a price increase in the US, which will be affecting most reservation holders. However, not all customers will be affected – just the vehicles assembled after the 4th January. VW is making some other changes, including changes to the battery supplier and and end to the current reservation system.

One of the main changes is to the price of the car, which has gone up by $1,500 (£1,200) and will take affect on all ID.4 cars that will be produced on or after 4th January. Volkswagen has also mentioned that the new prices are a guideline for the dealerships and they will set their own prices. The MSRP for the ID.4 Standard is $38,995.

The new batteries to be used in the ID.4 come from a new supplier and have better specs that before. In the past, VW was using batteries from LG Chem and is now using SK Innovation going forward. The new batteries support a maximum charge of 170kW, rather than 135kW. Charge time is also six minutes faster to go from 0-80%.
