Eve is now rolling out new Matter firmware to some devices

Eve is working on the future of the smart home and has been rolling out new firmware updates this week to some of its devices. The new firmware update enables support for Matter, which is crucial to get cross platform interoperability working, something which Matter promises is possible. Eve will initially bring support for Matter to the recent Eve Energy, Eve Door and Window, and Eve Motion devices.

As of writing, the Eve updates are in beta and to even get access, you need to join the Eve Matter Early Access Program first. Find out more here about their EA program and how to sign up. You need to download Apple’s TestFlight app, which will have you access to the beta Eve app which will then allow you to update your compatible devices. Eve do require that you have devices running on iOS 16.2 to later, or iPadOS 16.2 or later. You also need at least one Home Hub that can act as a Thread Border Router – this just means an HomePod mini or one of the Apple TV 4K 2nd or 3rd generations.

Eve will be rolling out Matter support in a public capacity in 2023 and from then on, the retail items will come pre-installed with Matter firmware. Once the Eve devices are updated, they will have compatibility with HomeKit‌, Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home.
