BMW reveals all new 7 Series for 2022

BMW reveals all new 7 Series for 2022

BMW has this week, revealed an all new 7 Series which is now the seventh generation of the luxury saloon. The new car is larger and more luxurious than any previous version.

Note: BMW has also revealed an all electric version, the i7 but we’ll be covering that in a separate article.

BMW has chosen to give the front end design a striking look, with large grille and split headlights. This design has been designed in a way to cater to preferences in China and the US. On the front is the large grille, which is an iconic design piece even on the company’s all electric models. The headlights have been split, with the LED running lights on the top and main lights underneath, something which BMW added to its new BMW X7 which itself has jus been facelift.

BMW will be offering three different M trim levels, each with added performance and design. There is M Sport, M Sport Pro and M Performance. Each model will have unique styling cues such as chrome and black. The whole car has also got wider and taller, gaining 48mm in length and 51mm in height. BMW has also stopped offering long stretched models, instead the 7 Series is 5mm longer than the previous LWB 7 Series.

When the 7 Series goes on sale, there will be a number of engine choices, with mild hybrid petrol and diesel choices and plug in hybrid versions. However, not all of these engines are destined for the UK. The only diesel engine in the model lineup is the 740d xDrive, which will be launched in April 2023. This has a 3.0-litre straight six engine, with mid hybridisation. It’ll have 295bhp and 494lb ft torque and be able to do 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds.

Inside is the latest iDrive 8 system, which has been included on the BMW i4 and the new iX. Here in the 7 Series is a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch display for the driver instruments.
