Microsoft is pulling support for OneDrive on Windows 7 and 8 next March

Microsoft has revealed that come March 2022, OneDrive will no longer be supported on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Microsoft is trying to gert some more users to move to newer operating systems, like Windows 10 and Windows 11. Support for Windows 7 ended on 13th January 2015 with the extended support ending on 14th January, 2020.

Corporate users using OneDrive have a bit longer for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, with support ending in a couple years on 10th January 2023. Customers on Windows 8 still won’t get supported anymore.

While the web will still be accessible for users on those older operating systems, it might become a bit of a hassle to sync files, so upgrading to a newer Microsoft OS is recommended. Microsoft has said the change will help “focus resources” on newer Windows platforms and technologies.

This isn’t a ploy by Microsoft to get some more money out of users to upgrade, it complicates things when there are users who won’t budge from older operating systems. Back in January this year, we reported that Windows 7 was still running on 100 million PCs and then the year previous, we reported that the German government was still depending on Windows 7 and was paying Microsoft a fee per machine for the privilege.

Support for OneDrive on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 will end on 1st March 2022.
