Tesla announces a new wireless phone charger that rivals the never-released AirPower

Tesla has this week revealed an all new wireless phone charger that seems to closely resemble the technical undertaking that Apple had planned for the AirPower back in 2017. Apple never got round to actually launching the wireless charger and was ultimately scrapped a few years later. However, the new Wireless Charging Platform from Tesla has managed to do what Apple couldn’t.

Tesla say that the charger can charge up to three devices at the same time, so long as they are Qi compatible. This means any iPhone from the iPhone X and iPhone 8 and newer and for AirPods it’ll work with AirPods (2nd generation) with Wireless Charging Case, AirPods (3rd generation), and AirPods Pro. Unfortunately, all Apple Watch models are not compatible with Qi.

Each device will receive 15W each when using three devices at the same time, using the included 65W USB-C power adapter. For the tech inside, Tesla has packed 30 coils inside the unit, which is very similar to what Apple had planned for the AirPower.

The design is apparently inspired by the Cybertruck, with a very angular design and is made out of aluminium. The Tesla Wireless Charging Platform is on sale now only in the US for $300, from the official Tesla Shop.
