Apple has updated support on Apple Maps in CarPlay for the new Ford Mustang Mach-E to be able to get access to the ‘EV routing’ feature. This feature was added to iOS 14 back in 2020, but it seems it needs to be updated for certain car models in order to fully work correctly. This week, with the release of iOS 15.4 Apple has now added support for this electric car feature for the Mustang Mach-E.

This feature helps you plan a trip using Apple Maps and it’ll work out when on your journey is best to charge up you car, which is an important part of EV ownership. Apple Maps will be able to see how much charge is in your car and use that to plan.

However, to support this feature – even on the Mustang Mach-E there are some caveats.

The Apple Maps EV Routing feature creates a route to your preferred destination including an EV charging station along the way. It is activated through Apple CarPlay®*, and only available for Mustang Mach-E owners that meet the following criteria:

2022 Model Year (MY)
2021 MY with the following SYNC®** software versions (see Checking Your SYNC 4A Software Version):21281_PRODUCT.244
22028_PRODUCT.358
22034_PRODUCT.364
A minimum iOS version of 15.4

Ford

Despite this, Ford will be rolling out a software update for 2021 Mustang Mach-E models later this year to support this.
