Vietnamese electric car company, Vinfast was looking at entering the UK market by the end of 2024, but according to the former Deputy CEO of Vinfast UK, this rollout has been postponed for now. Andrew Pilkington, the former Managing Director of Genesis UK has Vinfast UK listed on his Linkedin page, with it spanning just six months, from January 2024 to June 2024.
"Due to the postponed introduction of VinFast in the UK, the business has been suspended until a future date. Hopefully, it will not be too long before we see VinFast cars on the road in the UK."
Andrew Pilkington
There isn't any clear reasoning why the rollout of Vinfast UK was postponed. According to his LinkedIn page, Andrew mentioned that ground work took place, including recruiting team members and dealers. Although, he did go on to say that he hopes that it won't be too long before VInfast cars are on UK roads.
Our take
The UK market for new EVs has become much more competitive, with more and more Chinese car brands launching here. With the likes of GWM Ora, BYD, Omoda, Jaecoo already on sale here - with more to come. Vinfast might have decided that maybe now isn't the right time to launch and will do it at a later date.
