Genesis pulls the plug on combustion in the UK to focus on EV

Genesis, the luxury car subsidiary of the Hyundai Group is going to become an EV only manufacturer by this summer, pulling the plug completely on its combustion only models.

The company has a couple of models which are only available in pure combustion, with the G70 saloon, G70 estate and the GV80 SUV. Elsewhere, the G80 saloon and GV70 SUV are available in both electric and combustion.

The company also has the Genesis GV60, its best selling car in the UK, and is an electric only model - heavily related to the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6. In fact, over 80% of sales for Genesis in the UK are pure electric models.

Going forward, Genesis will essentially let its combustion models sell out and as of writing, the G70 in both body styles is almost sold out and there aren't many units left of the G80. With the GV70 and GV80, there should be enough stock on hand to last until the summer.

Genesis will only sell its three electric models, the GV60, GV70 and G80. All three of which are due to have facelift models launched this year, with announcements previously made.

Genesis is also expected to launch some hybrid models too, although this hasn't been officially confirmed. This could mean the company utilising some of the group's hybrid tech from the Hyundai and Kia models. However, it wouldn't be surprising if Genesis decide to become an EV only brand in the UK instead.
